We had a great trip to Indianapolis a few weeks ago. As usual, our time there was packed solid. I wish there was a way to see everyone I wanted to see, but no matter how many days I am "home," there is never enough time. My little munchkin makes seeing people a bit more difficult now that I am a slave to nap and bedtime schedules. Regardless, we enjoyed seeing my family and many, many lifelong friends. For those of you that I missed, I'll catch you next time.
After arriving in Indy at 4:30 AM (yes, you read that right - we had a 4+ hour delay in Denver) on Thursday, May 27th, we slept all day and then headed up to Sara, Ted, and Tatum's house on Thursday evening. Tatum is 14 months older than Taylor, and I love watching them interact. Taylor just adores Tatum. She is the big sister that Taylor will never have! Below are a couple of cute shots of the two of them. Sadly, I was so focused on pictures of the girls that I did not get one of my BFF Sara.
The girls toasting with their sippy cups! They have matching cups only because Taylor took Tatum's first cup of milk and drank out of it. Maybe this is why my child is always sick? :)
Kissy-kissy
This picture of Tatum makes me laugh. It was getting late, so we put the girls in their pjs (both have monkeys on them) before Tommy, Taylor, and I left to drive home. Tatum was over-tired; Taylor still had no idea what time zone she was in. Anyways, I took about 20 pictures of the girls on these steps, and this is the best one I got. Look at sassy Tatum in her high-heeled shoes. Ha!
The next day, I spent my 33rd birthday with my family. My mom and I treated ourselves to pedicures, and we all went out to dinner that night. Taylor was walking more and more by this point, as evidenced by the picture below with Daddy. I'll post a video that I took in the Denver airport on our way to Indy. Taylor took about seven steps that night (it was about midnight during our delay), so we knew she was getting closer to walking... finally!
While Tommy and I enjoyed the race festivities that weekend, Taylor stayed with Mimi, Grandpa, and Casey. Alexa joined in the fun after the race on Sunday evening. Below is a picture of the three cousins playing legos on Memorial Day morning. I love how intent they all look.
Taylor lovin' on her cousin Casey!
Memorial Day cookout - Taylor disliked swinging until this day. Now she can't get enough of the swing. She has even climbed into her baby swing a few times since we got home (good thing she is still tiny or she probably would have broken it).
The rest of the week, we enjoyed spending time at my parents' house. We love sitting out on their deck in the evenings. Taylor, of course, couldn't get enough of the bubbles (video to come).
Taylor and Mimi on the deck. Beautiful Indiana weather!
Thank you, Mimi, for the swing! Have I mentioned that Taylor loves swinging now?
The weekend after Memorial Day, Tommy and I went to Boston for Tommy's 10-year college reunion. Taylor stayed in Indy with Mimi and Grandpa. They had a blast! My parents had several friends over on Saturday night, and Taylor hammed it up for them (so I hear). Taylor officially started walking that night. My mom said that she was walking from person to person as they all sat in a circle. She loved all of the attention and I suppose it gave her the courage she needed to finally take a leap of faith. As of now, I would say that crawling is still her preferred way of getting around, but she is definitely walking a bunch too.
Tommy flew directly back to Seattle from Boston, and I flew back to Indy to retrieve Taylor. I loved seeing her walk up to me at the airport on Indy! I spent one night at my parents' house before Taylor and I flew back to Seattle on Monday. The trip back with my active 16-month old was challenging, but we made it home and I will never do that again!
Taylor exploring the airplane before realizing she has to sit on my lap for 5 hours!
There are so many stories from this trip that I've left out, but I will hopefully catch up over the next couple of weeks. It was great to see my family and friends in the Heartland. I'm looking forward to the next trip already. Love to all!
