Matty's first birthday was last Saturday, Cinco de Mayo. We have been blessed with some great weather in Seattle this spring (finally!). Last Saturday was the fifth Saturday in a row without rain. Leading up to Matty's birthday, I hesitated to plan a party for the big day primarily because I did not want a bunch of people (and children) crowded inside my kitchen and family room. When Tommy and I finally had confidence in the forecast, we invited two other families over for a little fiesta. Grandma and Pop Pop came too. What I thought would be a small party really wasn't. When you include all the kids, we had 15 people at the party. We made guacamole, fajitas, beans, and rice. I love that Matty's birthday is on Cinco de Mayo because I love the excuse to make Mexican food and drink Coronas/margaritas!
Matty enjoyed his first birthday. He slept until 8:15, took a three-hour nap, opened presents (favorites include a small basketball goal, legos, and a water table), "played" with his friends, and had cake for the first time. What more can a little guy ask for?
