It's a Boy!

Tomorrow marks the halfway point of my pregnancy: 20 weeks. I am hopeful the 2nd half of this pregnancy is smoother sailing than the 1st half. The first 20 weeks were full of ups and downs: the surprise of #3, not hearing the heartbeat at our first appointment, seeing Taylor’s excitement upon learning that she’s going to be a big sister again, a genetic scare, recurring severe headaches, buying a minivan, and learning that I have a velamentous cord insertion (more on that later). Overall, I feel good and am grateful that my pregnancy, for the most part, has been pretty easy. Most importantly, I am thankful that this baby is healthy and thriving.

We are having another little BOY.  I suppose the beautiful thing about already having a girl and a boy is that we were completely indifferent about this baby’s gender. We learned the baby’s sex while we were seeing a maternal and fetal specialist, so I can honestly say that Tommy and I barely blinked when we learned the sex. This experience was much different than opening Taylor’s ultrasound picture or hearing the doctor say “It’s a boy!” when Matty was born. We just wanted to know that our baby was okay; the gender made no difference. In fact, we were so elated to learn the results of our tests that we forgot to tell some friends and family the gender. But yes, we are excited to welcome another little guy into our lives. Taylor was initially devastated; she wanted a baby sister SO badly. She is warming up to the idea, though, and I’m sure that someday she will be happy that she is the only princess in our family.

Thank you, friends and family, for your love and concern over the past few weeks/months. Summer has arrived in Seattle, and we are excited to have some fun with Taylor, Matty, and the bump.
