Another month has passed. My baby is six months old! For those of you that don't know, I love to celebrate half birthdays (celebrate may be a strong word... I enjoy acknowledging half birthdays), so it is fun that Brayden's half birthday is the day before my birthday (and vice versa).
I carry a tremendous amount of guilt that I am not able to spend enough quality time with little B - I am constantly moving him from one apparatus (bouncy chair in my bathroom) to another (swing in the family room) while I deal with Taylor and Matty in the mornings. Unless I am nursing Brayden, I rarely have the opportunity to sit with him and interact one-on-one. Trust me, I feel terrible about this day after day! Well, my guilt doubled after we saw the pediatrician this week, and he asked if Brayden is sitting up on his own. I almost laughed when asked this because B has no core muscles whatsoever - put him in the sitting position and he falls forward on his face. Poor little guy! Dr. Quinn believes he is about a month behind developmentally and wants Tommy and I to work with him in the coming weeks to get him upright. Wish us luck!
On top of this, Brayden follows in his sister's footsteps on the growth curves. He is 15.0 pounds (8th percentile) and 26.25 inches (30th percentile). I am sad that my son is such a peanut! I am still nursing but have been giving B formula for several weeks now. Generally, Brayden has 8-10 ounces of formula a day, but I will try to increase that now that I'm determined to put some meat on this guy! He is doing really well with solid foods and eats cereal, banana, sweet potato, apples, carrots, squash, pears, and peanut butter (he hates peas and green beans). My pediatirican encouraged us to introduce peanut butter early this time around instead of waiting until Brayden is a year old - funny how philosophies can change so much in the 18 months since Matty was starting solids.
Brayden, overall, is a good sleeper. I can always tell he's ready to sleep when I put him down in his crib - he kicks his legs up and rolls over onto his left side - that is definitely his "sleeping position." He consistently sleeps from 6:45 or 7:00 PM until 4:00 AM. While that is not "sleeping through the night" by my definition, I cannot complain about him sleeping a nine-hour stretch. After I nurse him in the early morning, he goes right back to sleep for another 3+ hours. I believe he's slept through the early morning feeding twice in his life. Needless to say, momma is ready for more zzzz's.
Brayden adores his big sister. Taylor has been more successful than anyone at getting B to giggle and full-on belly laugh. She will dance and sing for him, and he just lights up! Matty loves his baby brother but I am not sure that feeling is reciprocated by B yet. :) While Matty tries to "play" with B, Brayden usually does not appreciate Matty driving a matchbox car up his leg.
On to some pictures from Month #6!
