Eight Months

"Oh, sweet B, won't you dance with me? Won't you, won't you, won't you be my boy?"

Mimi taught me this song when Taylor was a baby (except the first part is "Oh, sweet pea..."). I have sung this song to all three of my children, but it really fits with my little B. Poor Brayden is called "B" more than any other nickname. I don't know if it is laziness, but for now, B sticks.

So, my little B is eight months old. In the past month, he has finally mastered sitting up and he loves to get on his hands and knees and rock back and forth. Whenever he wakes up, whether it be first thing in the morning or after a nap, I find him rocking back and forth on his hands and knees in his crib. Changing his diaper right now is like wresting a squirrel. He immediately flips onto his belly when I put him on his changing pad. Sometimes I am successful at distracting him with a book or a toy, but most of the time I have to change his diaper with his bottom in the air.

Brayden has not cut any teeth yet. I am pretty sure both Taylor and Matthew had teeth by this age, but Brayden is probably not far behind. He drools on everything and puts anything he can get his hands on into his mouth. His hair is filling in more and more - he only has a few of his long, stray baby hairs left on the crown of his head (I just love his little Mohawk). He is babbling more and more. Tommy and I went away for our anniversary the weekend before last, and I was amazed at how much he picked up while we were gone for three days. I love his little sounds. He is so proud of his noises and smiles from ear to ear when I respond to him. We have lengthy conversation in babbles.

Taylor and Matthew LOVE their little brother. Taylor has begun to pick him up and lug him around. I will allow her to do it from time to time, but then I catch her doing it without my permission. Poor B looks like a rag doll in her arms. I think Brayden loves Taylor more than anyone, though. She can make him laugh instantly. I love watching their interactions - she dances and sings like a goof ball and he belly laughs. Matty tries to be a good brother but is usually too rough, too loud, or too crazy and makes B cry. I cannot wait to watch their friendship grow as Brayden is able to communicate more.

Many of my friends comment to me about Brayden's sweet, good-natured, personality. "He is always so happy," they say. I suppose I had not realized this good-fortune of mine until it was pointed out to me. Who knows if Brayden was pre-disposed to be a happy little guy or if he learned early on that he had no choice but to roll with the punches? Regardless, I love this little man to pieces and am so proud to be his mommy.
