Whoa, I am behind on soooo many blog posts. What a busy month we've had. A month ago, we celebrated Brayden's birthday on Thanksgiving Day, and then the Christmas season was in full swing. Now, I sit here on a Sunday morning, playing hooky from church, thoroughly enjoying the quiet, lazy, controlled chaos in my house.
Highlights of the past month included:
- Running a 5k on Thanksgiving morning. Taylor ran the whole thing with us, and Matty ran most of it. I love the memories we are creating for our kids. I am glad we are teaching them the importance of exercise and making healthy eating choices.
Post 5k coffee run - Spending Thanksgiving with our friends, Rob and Kelly, and their children, Lexi and Tyler. It was a different twist on Thanksgiving since we are typically with family.
My favorite two-year old
Kids Thanksgiving table - I failed to take a picture of the adult table. - Watching Brayden kick and scream while we sang "Happy Birthday" to him. He was furious that I pulled him away from some toys he was fully engrossed with.
- Hosting my parents for a week in early December. We did several Christmas things with them, including Snowflake Lane, a Santa Cruise, the Nutcracker, baking cookies, shopping, and watching Christmas movies.
Snowflake Lane - an annual tradition
This little guy had a blast - he danced the night away
- Going to Taylor's first parent/teacher conference with Miss Gaul. She had only good things to say about Taylor!
- Going to Taylor's gymnastics show. As of now, she is not really in to gymnastics and wants to go back to dance next year, but we'll see how she feels in a few months.
- Attending Tommy's work holiday party at the Chihuly Art Museum in Seattle.
- Watching Matty sing in his preschool Christmas program. Leaving early with Brayden because he ran all over the place and I ran out of steam.
- Getting together with long-time friends for dinner and drinks.
- Hosting our 4th Annual Christmas Eve-Eve party for Tommy's high school friends, their parents, and their children. We had 40 people in our house, including 15 children. It was chaos!
- Going to Christmas Eve mass with Tommy's family. The church was so full that we had to stand on the side. Brayden was such a nightmare that Tommy never made it inside. Matty went looking for Daddy and Brayden in the middle of mass and started roaming down the center aisle - there were lots of strange looks among worshipers as they watched a little guy walk around the aisle. We threw in the towel and left 15 minutes early.
- Hosting Christmas Eve dinner with Tommy's parents, his 91-year old grandma, his brother Brian and sister-in-law Kristen.
- Watching the kids' excitement at the unveiling of Santa's visit on Christmas morning. The big gifts from Santa included a trampoline and American Girl salon chair for Taylor, a bike for Matty, and a cars mat for Brayden. Tommy and I gave the kids a new art table.
- Spending Christmas evening at the Bligh's house.
Taylor received a 2nd American Girl Doll, Caroline, from Grandma and Pop Pop.
These hugs with Gigi are priceless. The poor woman cannot see or hear, so I know she LOVES hugs from her great-grandchildren!
Brayden's turn to give a hug.
Matty gives the best hugs of all!
We collectively spent hundreds of dollars on Christmas gifts for these boys, and what do they like the most? A set of matchbox cars that they can roll down the hallway to one another.
Brady's new car ramp from Grandma and Pop Pop. Mimi and Baba got him another car ramp (and it may be slightly bigger), so it is safe to say that we have happy boys!
Every kiddo fell asleep on the drive home - a sign of a successful Christmas!
- Taking Taylor to Children's Hospital on 12/26 to have her ears examined.
- Spending the night at the Bligh's on 12/26 so that we could put the kids to bed early and enjoy some adult-time with Brian and Kristen and longtime family friends.
