"My Mother Likes to Eat..."

Taylor's kindergarten class makes a "class book" each week using a sight word (or word of the week). The teacher aid helps each student write a sentence and draw a picture using the sight word. Every student's picture is bound into a class book, and then the book rotates going home with different students to share/read with his/her parents. It is really quite cute.

Well, tonight, Tommy and I were tucking Taylor into bed while she read us her "Eat" book. She is always so proud to read to us and show us each of her classmates' pages. When she flipped the book open to the first page tonight, the sentence read, "My mother likes to eat meat." The first page was written by Julia, one of our neighbors. I quietly giggled to myself about how I was going to tease Julia's mom about her carnivorous habits. Taylor flipped to the next page. It read, "My mother likes to eat lettuce." The next page read, "My mother likes to eat healthy foods." It went on and on...

"My mother likes to eat salad."
"My mother likes to eat apples."

"My mother likes to eat rice."

"My mother likes to eat broccoli."

And then we got to Taylor B's page:

Sausage? Really? I eat sausage about as often as the average person. I don't know why, but Tommy and I could not stop laughing. In fact, I had tears running down my face I was laughing so hard. Poor Taylor got her feelings hurt and starting crying, so I tried to explain why I thought it was funny. Here I go out of my way to eat healthy foods in front of my children, and the only food Taylor thinks to write about is sausage. Ha!
