Fifi the Frog

Last Friday afternoon, I was watering my flowers and found a frog along the rim of one of my flower boxes. I quickly called Taylor and her friend Lexi over to take a look. The girls squealed with delight at the sight of a frog and quickly scooped it up. Four days later, this frog has become a family obsession.

Friday evening, Taylor constructed a "home" for Fifi the Frog out of green construction paper. Saturday, Tommy found an old cardboard box to make a better home for Fifi. I giggled when I saw that the kids (all three of them) decorated Fifi's home with legos, a swimming pool made from an old plastic container, construction paper trees glued to the side of the box, leaves, dead bugs for food, etc. The top of the box is cut out and covered with cellophane wrap (with holes for air) for proper observation of the frog. The kids check on Fifi several times a day, and I laugh when I hear comments like "She's so cute!" I mean, really, how is a frog cute? Yesterday, the kids and I stopped by a pet store and bought crickets and meal worms for the darn frog. Then, we had a viewing party as we watched Fifi gobble up the live crickets and promptly take a huge dump in her box.

Clearly, Tommy and I have deprived our children of a pet. Is it time for a dog???
