Fall Activities

In the spam of a few weeks, Matty has gone from playing fall soccer to playing fall soccer, club basketball and select basketball. UGH. In late August, against my better judgment, I allowed Matty to try out for a club basketball team (Fuego). Matty's friends Lucas and Kyler played on the team last year and their parents had great things to say about the coaching and training. Matty made the "B" team while Lucas and Kyler made the "A" team. At the same time, I learned about Liberty Select Basketball tryouts the second week of September. My vote was that we pass on the Fuego "B" team and allow Matty to try out for Liberty Select. My ambitious husband and eager-beaver son voted for Matty to try Fuego for the fall season. I acquiesced.

Last night, we learned that Matty made the 3rd Grade Liberty Select Basketball team. Several of his buddies are on the team too. Tommy went to the parent meeting during the tryout and said he was very impressed with the high school basketball coach and his commitment to the feeder program. So guess what? We are allowing Matty to play on this team too. WHAT ARE WE THINKING?

Taylor auditioned for the Nutcracker last weekend and was cast as a Rose Bud in this season's production. She was borderline hysterical when she learned of her role because some of her dancer friends got more advanced roles as well as two parts. I did my best to encourage her and remain positive, but I understood her disappointment and questioned why she was not considered for those roles. I eventually emailed Lea, the director of her studio, and requested feedback from her audition. Lea wrote me back and said all the right things - the jist of it is that Taylor is not taking as many ballet classes per week as some of her peers. It will be up to Taylor whether she wants to take more ballet classes in hopes of getting a better role next year, but right now, we cannot add another dance class to our schedule.

As of now, here is the kids' fall schedule (before adding Liberty Basketball practices and Fuego/Liberty games):
