We Made It!

Last day of school - June 23, 2020

It was a trimester I hope to NEVER repeat. I love my children with every ounce of my being but I am not meant to be their teacher.

Obligatory Last Day of School Pictures

The teachers and staff at the kids' school did a nice job putting on a parade for the kids on the last day. This was not a typical parade, of course. The teachers and staff stood on the sidewalks in the bus loop, standing six feet apart and wearing masks. If I did not know them well, I would say it was kind of scary. Anyways, families were given designated times to drive through the bus loop and wave goodbye to their teachers. It gave us some closure but clearly not the closure we wanted.
Some 5th grade moms and I put together balloon columns for the parade. I am pretty proud of our work!

Solo cups on the school fence.
After the parade, the kids and I picked up sandwiches from Subway and headed to Lake Boren Park, our usual "end of school" tradition. The park was pretty empty this year, but I recruited enough families to join us that each of the kids had friends to run around with. The playgrounds are still closed. Brayden and his buddies played in the trees, Matty and his buddies played basketball and football, and Taylor and her girlfriends went on a walk. It made me so incredibly happy to see each of my kids with friends. At this point, my anxiety about Covid-19 is 1% about their physical health and 99% about the kids' social and emotional health.

Matthew and Brayden went home with the Beppus from Lake Boren, and I had a car load of girls. I took them to get ice cream - some friends of ours are opening an ice cream shop in Newcastle and had their ice cream cart open on Tuesday. The girls came back to our house and played Clue, then they all spent the night at Olivia Burdick's house. I sure hope the girls all had a great end to their elementary days because that was the most socializing Taylor has done in months (and I am still surprised all the parents agreed to a sleepover)!

Summer's here! What are we going to do with all of our free time?
