It's the end of an era! Brayden "graduated" from Newcastle Elementary School this month. After ten years in the school, we're done. While I will miss this school so much, I have aged out. Whenever I volunteered or went to school activities this past school year, I felt too old to be there. Not old due to my age, but old due to the ages of my children. I would talk to other parents, and their oldest kids would be in kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade, yet my oldest was a freshman in high school!
The school hosted a 5th Grade versus teachers kickball game on June 12th and 5th Grade "Celebration" on June 14th. It was a great way to commemorate Brayden's six years at the school. The night before his Celebration, he said to me at least ten times, "I can't believe I am done at Newcastle. I've been going there for most of my life." He's not wrong! I love his sentimental feelings towards the school.
I am grateful for our time at the school. The principal, staff, teachers, and community were amazing; it was such a special place for us to send our children during these formative years. I am especially grateful for the support we received when Brayden was sick two years ago. From cards to videos from Brayden's teacher to accommodations when he returned to school, we felt loved.
I served on the board of the PTSA for five of the ten years (four as treasurer). I planned a Fun Run and three College Kegger parties, filed tax returns and state filings, helped with staff appreciation luncheons, volunteered in the classroom, went on field trips, and attended numerous meetings. It was a great run!
