Drill State Comp

The Liberty Drill Team placed 2nd in state for their Kick routine yesterday. While the hope was that they would place 1st (they were ranked 1st going into the comp), the ultimate champions (Mercer Island) were flawless. Our girls had a tough day, starting with a music issue when they competed in their Military routine. They had just started performing when the music cut out. After they continued dancing with no music for a few seconds, they were called off of the gym floor while the officials sorted through the issue. Our poor girls stood on the edge of the gym floor for an hour before they were called to go on again. Talk about a buzz kill. They were flat as a result. Their adrenaline had spiked and crashed, and there were many mistakes (one girl fell out of her headstand; another fell in the headspring). As a result, they placed 4th in military.

The girls looked pretty defeated after the military snafu, and despite the coaches' best efforts to give them a pep talk, they looked flat in their kick routine too. Once again, Mercer Island was flawless. The MI team has a male dancer who is a star, so they also get what I lovingly refer to as "boy points." So, while the outcome was not as good as we'd hoped for, they should still be proud of a 2nd place finish in Kick - it is a notch above their 3rd place finish last year.

This brings the 2024-2025 drill season to a close. Next up: Captain Tryouts for the 2025-26 season!
