Tommy and I had another ultrasound last Monday (10/6/08). For those of you that didn't know, I was told at the 20-week ultrasound that I had placenta previa. This is a condition where the placenta partially covers the cervix (aka the birth canal) and prevents the baby from "enjoying" a natural birth. If I were to go into pre-term labor, I would be at risk for heavy bleeding since the baby would not be able to enter the birth canal and the placenta could tear away from the uterus. As a result, I was restricted from exercising and heavy lifting. My doctor advised that if the condition did not correct itself, I would need to have a c-section at 36 weeks. During my ultrasound this past week, we learned that my placenta has moved away from my cervix and everything looks great. Tommy and I were thrilled because (a) this is best for the baby, (b) I am no longer looking at a Christmas baby (knock on wood), and (c) we were given the green light to go to Hawaii for our Babymoon!
Have you heard of a Babymoon? The term sounds kind of silly to me, but the concept is great. Take a week off to enjoy some R&R with your spouse before the baby arrives. Done! We leave tomorrow morning and are spending a week in Oahu. We really have no plans but to lay in the sun, read books, take hikes, and of course, eat. This will be a bit of a challenge for Tommy and me (not the eating part!) because we are not very good at relaxing. I know, I know, we need to enjoy it while we can...
Now, on to the point of this blog entry... we have new pictures of Baby Bligh to share. Unfortunately, the ultrasound pictures were not as good this time, but there are still a few worth showing. The first picture is a bit scary - our dauther looks like a pirate! If you can't tell, the picture is straight on, so you can see her nose and right eye. Her hands are in front of her left eye, hence the pirate comment. We still think she's cute, though!

The last picture is pretty blurry, but you can see her hand. I know it sounds silly, but I was relieved to see that she has five fingers!
Sadly, this will be our last ultrasound before the little one joins us. We can't wait to meet her!

Thanks for the better baby bump pictures! Brings back memories of not so long ago. And yet again, makes me a little sad that we couldn't experience this with you in Chicago. But congrats on the job situation...and on the corrected placenta situation. She looks adorable....she's going to be SUCH a cutie!
That's wonderful news! I am so glad that you get to go on your Babymoon!! That sounds like a lot of fun!!
Anxiously awaiting pics from the Babymoon! Happy to hear all is good with your little one wrapped up in her womb with no view and no place to go just yet :)
hugs and kisses!!!!
