Nine Months Old - Part II

Miss T is changing daily. She is a little person now! Tommy and I still stare at Taylor in amazement - many times we will stand over her crib before we go to bed at night and watch her sleep. We are so thankful that God blessed us with this little girl. She has changed us in so many ways.

Below are some fun facts about our nine-month old:

- At Taylor’s nine-month check up, she weighed in at 16 lbs, 13 oz (15th percentile), measured 27 ¾ in long (60th percentile), and has a head circumference of 17 ¾ in (75th percentile).

- Tay is a great sleeper! She still naps twice a day, usually for a couple of hours in the morning and then an hour or two in the afternoon. She rarely falls asleep right when I put her down. Instead, she will roll all over her crib (she covers every square inch) and play for 10-30 minutes before she falls asleep. It is fun to watch her on the monitor and listen to her “talk” to herself. Her lovey and paci are still “must haves” for both naptime and bedtime. I really don’t know if she could fall asleep without them! I guess that is a battle I will fight later on. Bedtime is around 7:00 and she sleeps for a good 11-12 hours.

It's about time to lower the crib mattress, as someone is starting to peek out after naptime!

- Tay eats three meals a day. While she likes food more and more, she is over formula and the bottle. Her pediatrician says she should be getting a minimum of 16-24 ounces of formula a day, and I would guess she drinks around 12-15 ounces. She will usually slug the first two ounces of a bottle, but then she pushes it away and wants nothing to do with it. If we sing to her (I blame Mimi for this!), she may drink another ounce or two. So, this is a daily battle for us now…

- Taylor’s favorite foods (as of now) are yogurt and cheese. She cannot get enough dairy, so I guess this offsets her lack of formula a bit. I love watching her body tense with excitement when I put a slice of cheese in front of her.

- T’s hair continues to fill-in on the back of her head. A month or so ago, I was thinking that she may be a blondie, but now I think she’ll have light brown hair. She has gotten a lot of hair in the last few weeks, and her silly comb-over (also called the baby tupae) is still going strong!

- Taylor is getting both front teeth. The right one broke through on 10/11 and the left one broke through on 10/18. I am going to miss seeing her big, toothless smile. She hasn’t been too fussy even though these teeth look huge, although it is cute to watch her move her tongue over her toofers. She is also putting EVERYTHING possible into her mouth. I have to constantly watch her to prevent her from eating board books, magazines, fuzz on the carpet, etc.

- Her favorite toys right now are her blocks, egg shakers, Sophie the giraffe, and Chancey the bear. In fact, she goes NUTS whenever she sees Chancey on the floor in her room. She will stop looking at a book or drinking a bottle and reach out to hug Chancey. Then, she screams in delight. It is the cutest thing.

- I am not sure if Taylor is into reading books yet, but she sure loves to flip the pages. Her favorite books are “Where is Baby’s Belly Button?” and “Peek A Who.” She doesn’t sit still for long, but she will listen to us read because she knows we’ll let her turn the pages when it is time.

- Our active baby is always on the move! She is not crawling yet, but she is constantly rolling all over the place. In fact, she will not lay on her back when we go to change her diaper. As soon as she hits the changing pad, she immediately flips over onto her belly. Tommy and I now have a stash of toys (meaning tubes of diaper cream and the remote control) to distract her while we quickly change her diaper or get her dressed. There is no leaving her side now or she would propel herself off the changing table in a second.

Below is a parting shot of our pensive daughter - I caught a rare moment of stillness on camera.
