Super Why

In the last few weeks, Matty's vocabulary has blown up! He's gone from ~10 words to ~50 in a matter of days. It is the cutest thing to watch him put sounds together. He still refers to Taylor as "sss sss" (sissy) and he cannot say his own name, but otherwise, the words are spewing out. Last night, when Matty heard the garage door open, he screamed "Daddy 'ome!"and jumped down from the table to run to the door.

Now, I hate to promote TV shows given that, technically, Matty should not be watching television yet. For the most part, Matty will not watch TV (even though I've tried to encourage it on several occasions so that I can shower, nurse, cook). However, the one show he's taken an interest in is Super Why.

Super Why is a 3-D animated adventure series, produced by the creators of Blue's Clues, designed to provide children ages 3 to 6 with the critical skills they need to read (and love to read!)... and yes, I just plagerized that sentence from the show's website. :) I started taping the show for Taylor now that she is learning her letters, but Matty is the one that always wants to watch it. He will sit mesmerized for at least half of the show, and he always points/repeats letters when the characters interact with the audience.

Last week, as I was leaving the dry cleaner, Matty was pointing and screaming "ooooo." I did not understand what he was trying to tell me until I looked at the sign above the store front - "Overlake Cleaners." Matty was pointing out the letter "O" in the sign. Since then, he points out every "O," "E," and "I" that he sees.

So, maybe a little television at age 21 months is not so bad after all?
