Great Wolf Lodge

It has become tradition to take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge during parent teacher conferences every year. The elementary school has always given the kids a random Wednesday and Thursday off in order for families to schedule their conferences with their children's teachers. So, years ago, a group of us decided to schedule our kids' conferences early on Wednesday morning and then take off for Great Wolf Lodge. What else are we going to do with kids home from school mid-week?

Well, this year marked my last trip since my baby is a 5th grader. I'm not saying I will never go to GWL again (although I would not be upset if I didn't), but we will never have another parent-teacher conference break. This year, conferences were moved to mid-November instead of early December which took a lot of parents by surprise. As a result, several of our usual moms could not come due to work and other commitments. Not wanting this tradition to end, Kristin McNamara and I decided to load up as many boys as we could and take a group! We had seven boys total: Brayden, Drew, Kevin, Owen, Tyson, Jack, and Eli. They all got along really well and were easy to manage. Phew!

Aside from the water park, the arcade is always a huge hit (and a money pit). I brought several GWL arcade cards with me (from previous visits) and asked a woman at the arcade to look on the cards to see how many points were on them. Well, it turns out that we had over 6,000 points from previous visits (thanks Matty!), so I loaded all of the points onto one card and gave it to Brayden. He played games and points were added to the card, so by the end of his arcade run, he had a LOT of points to use towards prizes (aka crappy toys!). All of the other boys were jealous of Brayden and started asking him to "buy" them things. In an act of kindness, he did! He used his points to buy stuffed animals for every kiddo there. It warmed my heart to see that. I know he secretly loved the attention, and giving his friends stuffies will mean more to him down the road than buying something for himself. It was a good lesson.

Thanks for the memories, GWL!

People always joke that GWL is gross, but it's actually pretty nice.

We have gotten our money's worth from these soda cups! I bring it back every time we go and the kids get free refills.

Mom's favorite job. Holding tickets in the arcade!
