One of our favorite summer activities is going to Lake Boren Park on Wednesday evenings in July/August for concerts. The first concert of the summer was last night, and our whole family went. That does not mean we went together. Tommy and I drove a carload of boys, Taylor came separately with Tyson, and Tommy and I drove an entirely different carload of boys back afterwards. We barely see the kids during the concert. They come to us for food or money (we usually bring food, but they always want to buy something from the various food trucks). Otherwise, Tommy and I kick back in our camping chairs and share a bottle of wine.
Last night, I took a moment to appreciate the chaos. Matty had several friends at our house before the concert, so they all piled into the Suburban when it was time to go. Of course, once we got to Lake Boren, they walked over to McDonald's and eventually ended up at a girl's house. Brayden had his buddy Graham over before the concert as well. After the concert, however, we brought two other friends of Brayden's home with us. They all went up to the golf course to play the 16th hole by our house. It was a beautiful summer evening; the sun did not set until after 9:00. Taylor and Tyson came back from the concert and hung out in the kitchen with me as I unpacked the cooler. The boys were on the trampoline and ran back and forth to the golf course. The flurry of activity made me smile.
I went to bed that night after giving Taylor marching orders: she was instructed to drive Brayden's friends home and retrieve Matty from Jordan's house. All three of my children now stay up later than me!
Ahhh, summer nights...
