18 Months

Matthew celebrated his half birthday on 11/5. My little man is 18 months old! He continues to brighten my days with his growing vocabulary, strong opinions, and intense curiosity. I still love to hold him and kiss him a hundred times a day. He is my little boyfriend.

Matty's vocabulary at 18 months is somewhat limited - momma, daddy, mimi, baba, uh oh, baby, bubble, ball, yeah, no no, and ssss ssss (his way of saying "sissy"). But, boy oh boy, does he get his opinion across! He is very good at saying "yeah" or "no no" while shaking his head fiercely. He points and grunts when he wants something and will not stop until you figure it out. If he wants food, a drink, or a pacifier, he sticks his tongue out, points to his mouth, and says "ahh ahh."

He loves his cars and plays with them nonstop. He also loves to pick on his sister - he's gotten pretty good at pulling hair, biting, and throwing himself on top of Taylor. Their fights can be brutal! I try my best to redirect his aggression from pulling hair to hugging her, and I am successful about 50% of the time. I love watching the two of them hug. It just melts my heart.

Matty is still a great sleeper and regularly sleeps 12-13 hours a night. He also takes a 1.5-2 hour nap in the afternoon. He has four loveys and prefers to sleep with all of them. He is also addicted to his pacifier like his sister was. I am trying to limit his use of the paci to naps and bedtime, but he would prefer to have that thing in his mouth 24/7. Looks like I am setting myself up for another struggle when he turns 3 and the paci fairy visits our house.

At his 18-month check up, Matty was in the 50th percentile for both weight and height (25 lbs, 12 oz and 32 inches). He seems so big compared to Taylor at that age, but I suppose it's all relative given Taylor's small size. The best thing we've learned in the past couple of weeks is that Matty is no longer allergic to peanuts! We took him to his allergist last week for another "scratch test," and he showed no reaction to the peanut serum. A blood test has further confirmed this, so he will go back to the allergist for a four-hour "eat peanut butter" test. Assuming he is able to eat peanut butter without reacting, we will be given the go-ahead to introduce peanuts into his diet. I am beyond thrilled!

I love love love the stage Matty is in now. He is growing more and more independent, but he still LOVES his mommy and daddy. He is the sweetest little guy! I can't get enough of him. I wish I could put this phase into a time capsule because I'll miss it soon enough.

We love you, Matty Boy!
