39 Weeks

After last week's appointment with my OB, I was 95% certain I'd be induced this coming weekend. After today's appointment, all bets are off.

I have not progressed any since last week's exam. While I remain 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced, my Bishop's Score decreased this week due to the position/station of the baby. What is a Bishop's Score, you ask?  Bishop’s Score refers to a group of measurements used to determine whether a woman may have a successful vaginal delivery and whether labor ought to be induced. Bishop’s Score is based on station, dilation, effacement, position and consistency. In order for my hospital to allow for an elective induction, a woman must have a minimum Bishop's Score of 6. Last week, I was a 7. This week, I am a 5. I wish my OB had explained that this score could decrease in the final weeks of pregnancy. Until this afternoon, I had no idea that was even possible (and to be honest, I think my OB was pretty surprised too).

I was pretty darn upset this afternoon. It is discouraging to go from thinking you are hours away from holding your baby to learning that it could be a couple more weeks. I felt that my OB misled me, and therefore I misled all of my family and friends. I even had my mom change her flight out here to arrive today (sorry mom!). But, I don't think my OB could have predicted this outcome, so I am trying to be forgiving.

The silver lining? My mom is here to help out with Taylor and Matty, and maybe Tommy and I can sneak in one last date night!

The waiting game begins. Sound familiar?
