Halloween was a complete washout this year. Seattlites have enjoyed some spectacular weather in 2015, but it all came to a crashing halt this week - a reminder that we live in a rainy climate and any weather but rain should be a bonus. Unfortunately, we've had such great weather this year that I'd made big plans for the Bligh family on Halloween night. I invited friends over for pizza beforehand, made a "witch's brew" for the adults, bought apple cider for the kids, made ice cubes with spiders in them, loaded up our cooler in the wagon with drinks for trick or treating, made plans to rendezvous with several neighbors and have some fun.
Well, with high winds, constant rain, and temps in the low 50s, it was a pretty miserable night. Most plans were aborted. Any socializing in the neighborhood was off the table. We went out and braved the elements for about an hour. We knew it was bad when our kids started asking to go home! I came home with the first wave (me, my boys, and another family) while Tommy and Taylor and some friends stayed out for a bit longer. The kids still had tons of fun, even though most of their Halloween night was spent indoors, playing with their friends and watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," (or in Matty's case, watching the World Series).
When we left to go trick-or-treating, I left a pumpkin with candy on the front porch for any kids that came over. When I returned at 7:00, I could tell that a few kids had been by, but the pumpkin was still mostly full. Well, our doorbell did not ring the entire night after we returned. This is shocking to me (and indicative of how much the weather halted people's plans - the candy was not worth being out in that wind and rain).
Anyways, here are some pictures from the night...

| Best moment of the night - Brayden and Owen were playing very quietly for a long time - when Debbie and I went to check on them, we found them in the living room, on the coffee table. Brayden was using a glow stick to go fishing for candy on the floor. Owen was shoveling candy into his mouth. There were wrappers all over the floor, and chocolate handprints all over the table. Hilarious, but I was glad my son was not the one eating all that chocolate at 9:30 PM! |
