Papi No More

I am excited to announce that our house is pacifier free! No more pacis! Hooray!

Brayden has been losing pacifiers for several months now. I told Brayden that I would not call the Paci Fairy like I did for his brother and sister; however, I told him that when he lost his last pacifier, that would be it! Well, his last paci went missing on 1/16. Just a few hours earlier, I sterilized it because I was grossed out by all the fungus growing inside. Brayden had been sick earlier in the day and was throwing up; I sanitized the paci around dinner time and he had it in his mouth while we watched a movie. As usual, Brayden lost interest in the movie and went up to the playroom, and that is the last time we saw the paci. It was unaccounted for at bedtime, and we haven't seen it since.

The good news is that Brayden has been an absolute champ. It has been a non-event (well, almost). When Taylor and Matthew gave up their pacis, it was a defining moment of their childhood - the end of any regular naps, bedtime struggles, crying for the paci, loss of interest in their loveys, etc. Brayden has barely mentioned it. He still loves to snuggle up with his loveys, he still takes naps, and he has not cried for the paci. I am beyond excited about this! I keep telling my mom that I feel like there is still a penance to pay. Thank you, Sweet B, for this gift to your momma!

When Brayden was at the dentist today, I told him to tell the dentist his big news. I had been looking forward to this moment since last weekend (before last weekend, I was dreading this appointment because I knew I 'd get the "it's time to ditch the paci" lecture). Brayden looked at Dr. Wong and proudly announced, "My mommy and daddy went skiing and I throwed up a lot!" How funny that this is the story he relates back to from that fateful day.

Now, if only we could get Brayden to poop on the toilet... :)

This is Brayden's last nap with the paci - he was sleeping on the couch when we returned from Taylor and Matty's ski lesson on the 16th (after throwing up 7 times that morning).

That night, I let Taylor and Brayden sleep in my bed - Tommy had just left town for London and the two of them were not feeling well. Brayden went right to sleep without his pacifier.

Here's my sweet boy on night #3. I love him so!
