July 4th Weekend

Spending the 4th of July at Tom and Elaine's beach house is a favorite family tradition. Our kids look forward to it every year. Traditionally, July 4th is the one night of the year when they do not have a bedtime. The tradition has become extra special now that Brian, Kristen and Emery typically come up for the week. Taylor, Matty, and Brayden (particularly Taylor) love their new baby cousin. We spent the long July 4th weekend at the beach this year and really lucked out with the weather. We took walks, played on the beach, played baseball, played cornhole, and generally just enjoyed checking out of reality for a few days. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

This view never gets old

Sleeping arrangements were tight this year - Taylor and Matty were on blow-up mattresses in Grandma and Pop Pop's room. On a drizzly morning, the mattresses provided some good ole fashioned entertainment.

Because it is light so late at the beach, we introduced the kids to sleeping masks. They worked!

One night at bedtime, Taylor said to me (and I quote), "Mom! It's like noon in here." If only I could transcribe the sassiness in her voice. But she had a point! It was bright as day in the bedroom when I was trying to get her to fall asleep.

These two had many arguments over who got to hold Emery...

The kids played really well together. Brayden loved playing on the huge log in the background, and Matty and Taylor appeased him and played along with his imaginative play. That afternoon, they flew on Brayden's "airplane" to Hawaii, California, and Indiana.

Snuggling in for the fireworks with Grandma. This is the first year we've let Brayden stay up for them. As you would imagine, he loved them!
