Grow Food

Like most moms, I struggle with feeding my children the right foods. There is SO MUCH junk out there - fried food, carbs, sugar, sugar, and sugar.  There are days when I wonder if Taylor ate anything other than bread products, and there are days when the sugar consumption is out of control. I am sure that my parents and Tommy's parents think I am crazy when I become a food nazi, but most of the food that my kids gravitate towards is total crap.

A few months ago, I started talking about "grow" food versus "slow" food. It has really taken off with the kids. Whenever they ask for a treat, we talk about whether or not they have eaten enough grow foods. Brayden, in particular, is obsessed with grow food. Before he puts anything into his mouth, he asks, "Mommy, is this grow food?" He gets so excited to eat grow foods, and as a result, he's eaten every vegetable offered to him in recent memory. It's the cutest thing. This morning, I asked Brayden what he wanted for breakfast, and his immediate response was "Grow food! How 'bout carrots, mommy?"

So, here's hoping that I can continue to encourage the kids to fuel their bodies with grow foods. Then, they can splurge with the fun foods, aka slow foods.

This video was taken in May (I know this because Brayden's hair is so much longer now!) but it shows when he started talking about grow foods. Love him.
