Baba's 70th Birthday

Two days after my parents arrived for their two-month visit, my dad turned 70. I wanted to do something really nice for my dad on his milestone birthday, but it was hard to throw a party for him in Seattle when all of his friends are in Indiana and Arizona. My dad has had a rough year. Last October, his lifelong best friend was tragically killed in a car accident. Then, my dad lost both of his parents within 45 days of each other this spring. To top it off, he has had both of his knees replaced in the last year. Needless to say, we needed to do a little celebrating after a painful year.

So, what better way to spend your birthday than at a Mariners/Yankees game? Fortunately, my dad shares Tommy's passion for baseball, so he was happy to go to the game with us. After the 2nd inning, we posted a message for my dad on the jumbo tron. I think Mimi tipped Baba off on the surprise, as he was posed and ready to take a picture with his phone before the message appeared on the jumbo tron.

After the game (Yankees won, so my men were happy), we headed to Lake Union where we rented an electric boat for the evening. I packed a picnic dinner and cupcake, and Tommy's parents joined up with us. We cruised around the lake and enjoyed the sights, although at times the water was a bit choppy and we got nervous about running into other boats.

All I all, Mikey had a nice birthday. It was not a surprise party with lots of friends from different phases in his life, but he was surrounded by some family and lots of love.
