Matty had a fun last few weeks of 5th grade. It made me so happy to watch him do all the things that Taylor missed at the end of her 5th grade year (thanks to Covid). Even though the 5th grade camping trip was cancelled this year (thanks again to Covid), the school/teachers did a nice job of providing a makeshift "5th Grade Experience" at the school for the 5th graders. Matty also participated in the traditional Green and Gold Basketball game, where some 5th grade students take on the teachers. On top of that, he participated in Field Day, a class auction, and finally, 5th Grade Promotion/Celebration (heaven forbid we call it Graduation).
The Green and Gold Game was closed off to family (thanks again to Covid), but it was live-streamed for viewers to watch online. I loved watching Matty take on his own teacher, Brayden's teacher, and several other staff members that we've grown to love over the years. The 5th graders beat the staff 52-47. It was really cute and I know Matty had a blast.

| The quality of these pictures are terrible because I took them through zoom, but there's Matty after hitting a basket. |
The 5th Grade Experience took place during school on Thursday and Friday, June 9th & 10th. On Friday, the kids stayed late until 7:30. I was able to volunteer for the whole experience, and frankly, it was good for me to keep my mind off of Taylor's first few days at ERC.
While the 5th Grade Experience was a far cry to 5th Grade Camp, the coordinators did a really nice job of making the best of it. I was a group leader and had a group of 13 kids (including Matty, of course), and I took them around to different stations and activities throughout the day. This included a scavenger hunt, escape room, science, robotics, team building challenges, field games, art, and crafts. The group also had dedicated time during the day to create/practice a skit that was performed in front of the entire 5th grade on Friday evening. I had a really great group of kids (boys and girls). They all got along really well and had fun together. Deep, deep down inside, I know Matty was happy to have me there. :)

Matty's 5th Grade Celebration was on June 15th. I was on the committee that planned the event, and it was a bit challenging this year since we could not hold the event inside and it tends to rain a lot here (this spring, I can count the number of sunny days on one hand). Thankfully, the weather was dry that day and the event was a huge success. I know it's just a silly 5th grade graduation, but I got very teary eyed when I watched Matty walk past the little kindergartners that lined the walk way, clapping for the graduates. It was a sweet day. :)

| I had to add this picture. I was setting up for 5th Grade Celebration one afternoon and the 5th Graders were outside signing yearbooks. Several of the kids came up to me and asked me to sign their yearbook. So sweet. |

And now that school is out, it's all baseball. All day, every day. The All-Star Tournament starts on Saturday.
