Several of Matty's friends are playing in an indoor soccer league. The league started the weekend after fall soccer ended and goes through the winter. Because Matty has already started practices for basketball and select baseball, I had to draw a line in the sand. NO. He cannot do it all. Of course, he was upset with me because this keeps him from playing soccer every Sunday afternoon with his buddies. I am trying to be intentional about not over-committing, and I can think of about 50 other things I would rather do on Sunday afternoons than drive Matty to another sporting event.
I made a compromise with Matty, however. I told him that if the team ever needs a sub because they do not have enough players, and if we do not have other commitments, he can play. This past Sunday, the team was in need of additional players. Taylor had a dance rehearsal, and another family offered to take Matty and bring him home. Deal! Matty was so excited to play. I received several text updates from our friends as Matty was on the field. He scored not one, but two goals, against a very tough team. His team lost 7-5, but he was pretty proud that he was responsible for 2 of the 5 goals. He also did this after being up until 11:00 the night before and going to church and a two-hour baseball practice on Sunday afternoon.
He's my little athlete. Wish I had more time to have him in more sports... that is way better than having him at home playing the PS4. :)
